Rev. Guy Hendree, Sr. Pastor
In June of 2003, Reverend Guy Hendree of Memphis, TN was called to the pastorate. His tenure has borne much fruit as Elcanaan’s role as a community church has been a major part of his focus. Participation in community endeavors and liaison with groups focusing on the good of the community has been a major thrust. Relationship with other churches, the local school system, the local branch of the NAACP, the Department of Human Services and other community groups has been evident in Reverend Hendree’s tenure. He has promoted training and religious education among the membership. An active Mission and Bible Study exists on a weekly basis. Periodically, seminars are conducted for the membership and the community at large are invited to participate.
A clearly articulated Mission and Vision Statement was developed under Hendree’s leadership, and it serves to guide the church as it attempts to be relevant in our modern society. Through his leadership an active and vibrant Children’s Church exists. It is not uncommon to have as many as thirty young people on Wednesday evenings.
Reverend Hendree recognizes the need for forgiveness in the lives of his parishioners and the lives of the society at-large and has conducted numerous Forgiveness workshops locally and regionally. These workshops have been well received.
During Reverend Hendree’s tenure the Elcanaan Community Help Organization was formed (ECHO). ECHO is a 501(c)3 Organization with a mission to restore structures on the former Allen-White School Campus.
